Mohamed bin Zayed University for Humanities and the United Arab Emirates University signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to enhance cooperation and align strategic initiatives.
The memorandum was signed by His Excellency Dr. Khalifa Mubarak Al Dhaheri, chancellor of Mohamed Bin Zayed University for Humanities; and His Excellency Professor Dr. Ghaleb Ali Al Buraiki, acting chancellor of the UAE University. This signing took place at the recently concluded COP28 in Dubai Export City.
His Excellency Zaki Anwar Nusseibeh, cultural advisor to His Highness the President of the UAE; and His Excellency Dr. Mohammed Rashid Al Hameli, chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Mohamed bin Zayed University for the Humanities witnessed the ceremony.
In signing the agreement, both parties seek to strengthen cooperation between the two institutions and benefit from the exchange of experiences and capabilities.
The MoU outlines strategic initiatives to be undertaken by both parties, including joint academic and research projects, in addition to other cultural, professional and training activities. The partnership also calls for completing scholarly articles and publications in fields of common interest as well as sharing learning sources and databases in addition not creating a unified index of resources and references. This will allow academics, researchers and students at both universities to access resources easily and conveniently at both institutions that will benefit their research and studies.
Moreover, the partnership will pave the way for the establishment of cultural and scientific activities, joint community service projects, and the launch of awareness and media initiatives related to these initiatives which will strengthen national identity, instill a sense of national pride, and foster a culture of reading among members of society.
Also included as part of the provisions of the MoU are vocational training and summer work opportunities to be provided to students of Mohamed Bin Zayed University for Humanities at UAE University, in addition to cooperation in any other areas that will be agreed upon in the future.
Commenting on the partnership, Dr. Al Dhaheri said, “We value collaboration and partnerships with higher education institutions locally and internationally. It is part of our growth and development strategy, that will contribute to enhancing our capabilities as well as sharing our expertise with others. In signing this agreement with the UAE University, which was the first Emirati university, we also hope to be of service to the community through joint initiatives that will have a positive impact on society.”
Meanwhile Professor Al Breiki, acting vice chancellor of the UAE University, stressed the importance of cooperation between the two national flagship educational institutions through a joint endeavor to strengthen the cooperation and form teams, develop abilities, skills, and methods to enhance research under the regulations of the two institutions. It aims to achieve national and strategic plans and programs by promoting national values, openness to people’s cultures, and establishing qualitative scientific research. The UAE University – the University of the Future – is a hub for leading national academic expertise, having state-of-the-art scientific research facilities that keep pace with the development of teaching and learning methods and provide national institutions with the academic studies and training programs to support sustainable national development projects.
