“It was so powerful. It’s so important that children get these opportunities. Absolutely brilliant,” audience member at GESS Dubai.
This was just one of the many enthusiastic responses from an educator and an audience member at the prestigious GESS (Global Educational Supplies & Solutions) Dubai Conference, where UK based Razzamataz Theatre Schools were invited to showcase the skills of their amazing students. The performance offered the chance for the young people to demonstrate what they learn each week at Razzamataz and it was particularly impressive as the cast members came from schools across the UK, rehearsing remotely with the choreographer who put together an emotional production of several songs from the global smash hit Matilda the Musical.
The trip was extraordinary for students, who brought their talents to an international stage and left a powerful impression on educators from around the world. Invited by the UK Trade Mission to perform at the prestigious GESS Dubai Conference, the students demonstrated how the performing arts can foster confidence, creativity, and resilience in young people. The audience were warm, welcoming and truly appreciative of the performers with another education leader saying: “That’s been the best part of this entire event.”
In addition to their performance, the Razzamataz team participated in the Leaders in Education Conference, where they shared insights from their 25 years of experience fostering creativity and self-reflection in young people. The team spoke on topics such as “The Importance of Performing Arts Education in Schools Today” and “The Art of Resilience: How Performing Arts Foster Emotional and Social Growth in Young People.” The GESS theme of “Combine, Connect, and Create” resonated with the Razzamataz mission to connect young people with enriching opportunities that inspire passion and growth.
“As well as offering exceptional performing arts training, Razzamataz is about creating magical memories to last a lifetime, with this trip, we think we’ve done just that,” said Denise Gosney, MD and Founder of Razzamataz. “Our young people not only got a chance to share their talents and enthusiasm for performing arts with teachers from across the world, but they also had the chance to visit the city and experience some of its most iconic landmarks.”
The trip has had an impact on so many of the students as they have had the chance to delve into what participation in performing arts has given them, with Corey, age 18, from Razzamataz Weymouth saying: “Drama plays a crucial role in my life as it allows me to express my creativity and delve into different stories and characters. It has helped me understand myself better by exploring various emotions and perspectives. Through acting, I’ve been able to connect with others on a deeper level, sharing experiences and feelings that resonate with audiences, making them feel something meaningful.”
He goes on to express the huge impact the last few days in Dubai had on him explaining: “The trip was truly inspiring and has opened up opportunities we never thought possible. We’ve gained so much insight into the local culture, and the performance opportunity was absolutely incredible. It’s an experience that has broadened our horizon in ways we hadn’t imagined.”
Beyond the conference, students immersed themselves in the vibrant culture of Dubai, enjoying views from the Burj Khalifa, exploring future technologies at the Museum of the Future, and a mesmerising Dhow Cruise to name but a few memory-making excursions. This trip provided quality time with friends and family, leaving a lasting impression on everyone involved as Srita, the mother of Gia from Razzamataz Mansfield, reflects: “As a parent it was a wonderful being part of the Razzamataz community in this once in a lifetime experience. Something I will never forget! I was given a brilliant welcome and I can see why my daughter loves going to Razzamataz. The skills gained over the years have all come together for this epic performance. The whole experience was expertly put together.”
This visit also underscored Razzamataz’s ongoing international expansion efforts, as the Head Office made wonderful connections with schools looking to partner with Razzamataz to offer outstanding performing arts education as well as individuals who are interested in running their own Razzamataz school in Dubai and the UAE. Currently, the UK team are searching for exceptional teachers to be part of the first Dubai school to open in 2025.
Next year, Razzamataz will be celebrating its 25th anniversary at the Eiffel Tower in Paris and is exceptionally proud to have positively impacted the lives of young people through performing arts. With decades of experience, Razzamataz is excited to take its unique take on performing arts education global, reaching even more students around the world.
