Three Brighton College pupils shine at the Arabian Ranches Golf Club, setting the tone for an exciting year in sports

Brighton College Dubai celebrated the resplendent success of its talented young golfers at the second annual Brighton College Junior Open 2025, held on 19 January at the Arabian Ranches Golf Club.

The tournament, open to amateur junior golfers aged 10 to 19 with valid handicaps from the Emirates Golf Federation (GHIN or Golf Handicap & Information Network) or any affiliated club, saw Brighton College pupils shine among the most promising young players in the UAE. Wilf Clewlow earned the title of Boys Division A (Age 14+) Net Runner-Up, George Wylie triumphed as the Boys Division B (Age 10-13) Net Winner, and Bobby Gardiner delivered an outstanding performance to claim the Longest Drive award on Hole 5.

The competition brought together 41 aspiring golfers from across the UAE, including nine pupils from Brighton College Dubai, showcasing incredible skill and sportsmanship. Held in an Individual Stroke Play format over 18 holes, the tournament provided a platform for young athletes to test their abilities in a competitive yet supportive environment. Given the high demand, a handicap ballot was conducted to finalise the field of talented players.

Brighton College Dubai’s continued commitment to nurturing all-around excellence was evident throughout the event. The Arabian Ranches Golf Club offered an ideal setting, where pupils, families, and golfing enthusiasts gathered to celebrate the day’s achievements and the sport’s enduring appeal. The 95% adjusted full-course handicap ensured a level playing field, allowing all participants to compete at their best.

Simon Crane, Head Master at Brighton College Dubai

Simon Crane, Head Master at Brighton College Dubai, shared his thoughts on the event’s success and said: “It was a truly remarkable day for our pupils and the entire Brighton College community. Seeing our pupils embrace challenges and perform with such skill and determination is always inspiring. This tournament reflects our commitment to nurturing well-rounded excellence, where children are encouraged to grow both on and off the course. We are immensely proud of the talent displayed and look forward to more successes in the year ahead.”

The day concluded with an awards ceremony and dinner at the Arabian Ranches Golf Club, where participants, parents, and supporters came together to honour the accomplishments of the young golfers. Winners in Gross and Net Divisions, as well as on-course categories like the Longest Drive, Closest to the Pin, Net and Gross Order of Merit, were recognised for their exceptional performances.

Brighton College Junior Open 2025 marks the beginning of a promising year for sports at the College. With its next golf event scheduled for April 13th this year, Brighton College Dubai continues to inspire pupils to push their boundaries and achieve their best, setting a high standard in academic and extra-curricular excellence.
