NAS Dubai Launches Esports Club with Industry-Accredited Certification
NAS Dubai had the exciting opportunity to introduce students from Years 5 and 6 to the fascinating world of esports during an assembly that set the stage for the launch of a brand-new after-school club. Starting in Term 3 this April, the club will offer a unique and enriching experience for students, giving them the chance to dive deep into the rapidly-growing esports industry. As part of this exciting venture, students will work towards the EStars Certificates—entry-level certificates accredited by NOCN in the business of esports, helping them to develop the knowledge and skills needed to thrive in this dynamic field.
This exciting curriculum is designed to prepare students for their future BTEC in Esports which is currently being offered at NAS at the Secondary level, providing them with a strong foundation in both theoretical knowledge and practical skills.
What the After-School Club Will Offer
The assembly, held in the bustling Primary Auditorium, was a huge hit. The room was buzzing with energy as students eagerly listened and engaged with the presentation.
The after-school club will give students a comprehensive introduction to the world of esports, a subject that is often misunderstood but offers huge opportunities for growth, collaboration, and skill-building. Over the course of the club, students will learn about various key topics, including:
- Esports Genres and Games: Students will explore the different genres within esports, such as strategy games, first-person shooters, and sports simulations, and will delve into the specific games that define each genre.
- The Evolution of Esports: From its early days in the 1970’s to today, esports has undergone an incredible transformation. Students will look at how both games and gaming devices have evolved, from arcade games to high-tech consoles and PCs.
- Teams and Players: A key component of esports is understanding the characteristics of professional teams and players. Students will learn how teams operate, how players train, and what makes a successful esports athlete.
A Memorable Assembly with Special Guest, Arshy
The assembly featured a special guest appearance by Arshy, an esports professional who shared her journey into the industry. The students were captivated by her story, learning about the challenges she faced and the successes she’s achieved in the esports world.
It was funny to see how most of the students initially guessed that Arshy was an artist, rather than a fully qualified dentist who transitioned into the world of gaming. This moment sparked lots of curiosity as Arshy explained how her unique background contributed to her success in esports.
The students were also thrilled to hear about Arshy’s sponsorships and the different opportunities available in the esports world. The interactive quiz she conducted with the students was a big hit, further engaging them and making the experience both fun and educational.
