The New Children’s Book, When She Took To The Sky, Aims to Empower the Next Generation of Young Women in Aviation
Fueled by a love for aviation, Her Highness Sheikha Mozah Bint Marwan Al Maktoum, Dubai’s pioneering first Royal female police pilot, leverages her career expertise to launch her inaugural children’s book, ‘When She Took To The Sky’. Geared towards inspiring the next generation of young women in aviation, the book premiered at the Emirates Literature Festival on the 3rd of February 2024.
At 17, Sheikha Mozah made history as the youngest student to enroll at the prestigious Oxford Aviation Academy. This globally renowned commercial pilot training institution is based in both Oxford Airport in the UK and Mesa Falcon Field Airport in the USA. Attaining her commercial pilot license initially, Sheikha Mozah started her career with Emirates Airlines and later joined the Dubai Police Airwing as a First Lieutenant Pilot, marking a historic milestone as the first woman in both the UAE and the Gulf Region to achieve this distinction. In 2023 Sheikha Mozah was promoted to Captain and this is her active role. Additionally, she holds the unique honor of being the first Royal Family member to contribute to aviation.
With the intention of inspiring young girls and breaking gender stereotypes in aviation, Sheikha Mozah has skillfully woven this message into her debut children’s book. The narrative delves into the stories of remarkable female aviators, both from the local region, internationally and across history, emphasizing that the sky is open to everyone, irrespective of gender.
“The sky has no gender and the opportunity to fly belongs to everyone.” Says Her Highness Sheikha Mozah Bint Marwan Al Maktoum, Royal Emirati female pilot and book author. “I want to inspire not only young girls but also women to pursue their dreams. It’s essential for them to know that they can soar as pilots if that is their aspiration. Every woman deserves the opportunity to spread her wings and reach for the highest altitudes of her ambitions.” She adds.
‘When She Took To The Sky‘ premiered during Emirate Literature Festival, and will soon be available to purchase across major retailers online and in-store.
