PowerSchool’s inaugural research on AI in education, commissioned in collaboration with YouGov, highlights a profound shift in the perception of AI within the GCC’s educational sector.

Educators Call for Advanced AI Integration

A recent study involving over 300 educators across the UAE and Saudi Arabia reveals overwhelming support for the adoption of artificial intelligence (AI) and advanced technology in schools. The survey underscores a collective belief among educators that AI has the potential to improve learning outcomes, enhance personalisation, and alleviate administrative workloads.

According to the findings, 90% of educators expressed that the education system requires AI to improve learning outcomes. Furthermore, an equal proportion highlighted the need for personalised education to cater to diverse student needs, reflecting a significant shift in expectations for future teaching methods.

Detailed Survey Results

Educators’ Readiness and Needs:

  • While 90% reported positive transformations in their roles due to AI tools, 94% agreed that schools could better utilise AI’s potential.
  • A significant 91% indicated a need for additional investment and training to maximise AI’s capabilities in schools.

Time-Saving Potential:

  • Teachers emphasised the role of AI in automating repetitive tasks such as homework assignments (51%), attendance tracking (49%), and reminders (49%).
  • 56% estimated that adopting AI for assessments alone could save them 10 to 15 hours weekly, which could be redirected to student-focused activities.

Regional Trends in AI Adoption

Saudi Arabia vs UAE:

  • 95% of Saudi educators advocated teaching AI from early education, compared to 79% in the UAE.
  • AI’s positive impact on teachers was noted by 93% of Saudi respondents and 66% of UAE educators.

Professional Development:

  • Despite enthusiasm for AI, 88% stressed the necessity of professional development to keep pace with advancements.
  • 73% believe their institutions can expand AI adoption with proper investments.

The survey marks a turning point for AI adoption in education across the GCC, revealing strong willingness among educators to embrace technology while acknowledging the need for further investment and training.

Survey Details:
The study, conducted in October 2024, involved one-on-one interviews with principals and teachers from a variety of institutions in the UAE and Saudi Arabia.
