Hartland International School is privileged to offer its students the prestigious Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award (DofE), a world-renowned programme that fosters personal growth and community spirit in young people.
Since its launch, the DofE has inspired over 13 million participants worldwide, which is awarded at three progressive levels: Bronze, Silver, and Gold.
At Hartland, students embark on their DofE journey in Year 10 with the Bronze Award, progressing to Silver in Year 11, and culminating in the Gold Award during Years 12 and 13. This structured programme thoughtfully challenges students, equipping them with vital life skills such as leadership, perseverance, organisational planning and self-reliance.
The DofE at Hartland International School encompasses four key pillars:
- Service: Encouraging students to actively engage in community service initiatives, fostering a sense of social responsibility and civic engagement.
- Skills: Developing personal passions and practical skills, ranging from artistic pursuits and music to technical and vocational expertise.
- Physical Recreation: Promoting a healthy lifestyle through physical activities and sports, leading to improved fitness and well-being.
- Adventurous Journey: Embarking on expeditions and exploration trips that demand meticulous planning, teamwork, and resilience, offering students unique outdoor experiences.
A recent Gold Award expedition ventured into Oman’s breathtaking landscapes
This academic year has seen exceptional participation and achievements by Hartland students in the DofE. A recent Gold Award expedition ventured into Oman’s breathtaking landscapes where students navigated challenging terrain, undertook hikes, camped under the stars, and honed their survival skills – all as part of the Adventurous Journey pillar. The Silver and Bronze Award groups have also undertaken impactful community service projects, encompassing environmental conservation efforts and supporting local charities.
“We are incredibly proud of our students who have embraced The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award scheme with such enthusiasm and dedication,” said Mrs Fiona Cottam, Principal of Hartland International School. “This programme not only enriches their academic experience but also equips them for future challenges both in school and in life by fostering character and resilience.”
Hartland International School wholeheartedly encourages all eligible students to participate in The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award. The programme’s holistic approach aligns perfectly with Hartland’s mission to provide an enriched education that empowers young minds to surpass expectations and become the leaders of tomorrow.
